SUITE FOR A SHORT TIME is a chamber orchestra miniature—an entire orchestral suite in less than one minute. Scored for single winds, percussion and strings, the piece is a model of an economical, organic musical structure that makes maximal use of all of its material. Nothing is wasted: everything has a purpose, a place and a use.
The themes are taken from the ballet piece "Les Jongleurs," which I composed for choreographer Charlotte Hart (who was at the time studying on a Ballet Russes Fellowship at the University of Oklahoma School of Dance).
Premiered by the Grove City College Chamber Orchestra at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association conference in Erie, PA.
