Basic Combo Charts
Basic Combo charts are written with a single melody line that can be played by C, Bb, Eb, and bass clef instruments, plus a set of rhythm section parts (piano and/or guitar, bass, and drums). These charts are a bridge between a lead sheet and a full feature piece (like our Pro Series arrangements). It is like a written-out lead sheet, transposed for instruments in any key, with the addition of a written intro, solo space, an ending, and parts for the rhythm section. The entire form is written out so it can be played from top to bottom without any prior rehearsal or misunderstanding -- unlike using a leadsheet, which can be confusing.
Bass parts are completely written out, and have chord symbols for more advanced players to improvise their own parts. The piano/guitar part is basically a chord sheet, with significant lines and rhythms writtin in with regular notation. Drum parts are a kick sheet showing the form, the basic feel, and important rhythmic figures.
